Overview

A Mammographer’s responsibilities include explaining procedures to patients, positioning patients and equipment, performing examinations, maintaining and operating specialized radiologic equipment.

 

  • Conducts Mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view.
  • Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.
  • Prepares accurate records and enters required data into information management system.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Requirements:

 

  • AS/AAS degree required. BS degree preferred
  • Successful completion of a Radiology Technology program
  • ARRT and NYS license required
  • Mammography registry/certification required
  • At least 1-year work experience preferred
  • BCLS/CPR required
  • Bilingual is a strong plus
